Costs and other practical issues
Services at of psychologists and other mental health professionals are not covered by OHIP. Fees are charged on an hourly basis in accordance with guidelines set by the Ontario Psychological Association. We are always willing to discuss our fees and in some situations will reduce or even waive our fees. We usually ask that fees be paid directly at the end of each meeting and we accept, Visa, MasterCard, direct debit, cheques and cash.
If you have extended health care benefits you will likely find that some or all of our fees are reimbursed. People with work-related difficulties may be eligible for coverage through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Individuals receiving long-term disability benefits may also qualify for insurance coverage.
You can refer yourself directly by calling or contacting us by e-mail. You do not have to get a referral through your doctor, although some insurance companies do require a medical referral. We will usually be able to see you within a few days or weeks, although some services do have a longer waiting time.
The work we do with you is of course confidential and we will not release any information about you to anyone else without your permission. There are some exceptions to confidentiality and they relate to issues of child abuse, clear risk of harm or court ordered release of information. We will discus these issues with you when we begin our work together. (back to top)
